Job Contributions
Enterprise Network Operations & Service Ownership Own the availability, performance, capacity, reliability, security, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and supportability of the enterprise network across data centers, Internet services, cloud connectivity, WAN/SD-WAN, campus LAN, wireless, and supporting network-management platforms.
Lead day-to-day operations, engineering, lifecycle planning, and continuous improvement while using service metrics and trend data to identify risk, improve reliability, and ensure engineering work is deliberate, documented, and measurable.
Leadership, Staff Development & Accountability Lead, coach, and develop engineering staff; establish clear accountability and measurable ownership; delegate effectively; build succession depth; and support certification and technical growth. Create a culture of preparation, engineering discipline, documentation, follow-through, and early identification of operational and technical risks.
Operational Excellence & Performance Management Establish operating standards for monitoring, incident response, problem management, change control, service requests, maintenance, configuration management, documentation, and vendor escalation. Maintain and review operational metrics related to availability, incidents, problems, changes, network performance, lifecycle risk, monitoring, documentation, workload, vendors, and project delivery, and use trend data to drive root cause analysis and corrective action.
Major Incident Leadership Serve as senior operational leader for critical network incidents, ensuring rapid triage, clear ownership, effective escalation, disciplined communication, service restoration, and post-incident review. Drive root-cause analysis and documented corrective actions while distinguishing immediate restoration needs from longer-term architectural or operational corrections.
Project & Program Management Manage network projects and programs using defined scope, milestones, task ownership, dependencies, schedules, budgets, risks, and acceptance criteria. Establish realistic delivery plans, hold project owners accountable, identify schedule or budget variance early, provide concise leadership reporting, and ensure projects are completed with required documentation and operational handoff.
Data Center & Core Networking Provide leadership for Cisco data center networking, including ACI/Nexus environments, core routing and switching, segmentation, redundancy, high availability, inter-data-center connectivity, and integration with compute, storage, firewall, and virtualization platforms. Review designs and implementation plans to identify risk and ensure resiliency, capacity, and supportability.
Engineering Governance Require peer review, implementation planning, rollback planning, validation, and documentation for material network changes. Review architectures and implementation plans, challenge incomplete analysis and undocumented assumptions, and ensure high-risk changes are appropriately tested, validated, supportable, and documented.
Documentation, Standards & Configuration Management Ensure current network diagrams, standards, runbooks, IP/VLAN documentation, configuration standards, support procedures, escalation paths, inventory records, CMDB information, and recovery procedures are maintained and auditable. Require documentation to be updated following major changes and address identified documentation or configuration-management gaps.
Internet & Cloud Connectivity Maintain highly reliable Internet connectivity and cloud network access. Oversee BGP/ECMP design, DDoS readiness, edge resiliency, routing policy, public/private addressing, NAT where applicable, carrier diversity, and cloud connectivity to platforms such as Azure and AWS.
WAN / SD-WAN Services Lead WAN and SD-WAN services, including branch connectivity, routing, path diversity, failover, carrier coordination, broadband/Internet backup services, and performance management across critical sites. Monitor route and tunnel stability, latency, packet loss, utilization, capacity, and failover performance and ensure corrective action is taken when needed.
LAN & Wireless Services Ensure stable, secure, and supportable campus switching and enterprise wireless services, including access/distribution architectures, WLAN controllers, access points, segmentation, QoS, authentication dependencies, and capacity planning. Monitor wireless health, utilization, capacity, and service performance and address recurring operational concerns.
Lifecycle & Technical Debt Management Maintain hardware and software lifecycle plans, code currency, vendor defect awareness, vulnerability coordination, end-of-support/end-of-life tracking, refresh roadmaps, and technical-debt reduction plans. Drive standardization and automation where they reduce operational risk and manual effort.
Vendor & Carrier Management Hold carriers, OEMs, managed-service providers, and integrators accountable for service performance, incident ownership, contractual obligations, escalation, SLA attainment, and completion of corrective actions. Address recurring provider issues and ensure appropriate ownership through resolution.
Budget & Resource Planning Develop resource, maintenance, lifecycle, and project forecasts and manage operating and capital expenditures within approved budgets. Identify budget variance early and seek opportunities to simplify services, reduce cost, improve reliability, and align resources with operational and project needs.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Leadership Communication Partner with Network Security, Compute, Storage, Cloud, Telecommunications, Security/GRC, application teams, service management, and business stakeholders to deliver integrated enterprise services. Coordinate dependencies, risks, and operational handoffs and translate complex technical conditions into concise risk, impact, and decision statements for leadership.
Other Job Duties as assigned.
