Job Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale
The Sub-System Lead Engineer (SSLE) for Electric Power Components will lead the technical definition, integration, and validation of low-voltage electric power subsystems and their vehicle interfaces. The scope includes lead-acid batteries, intelligent battery sensors, DC/AC inverters, generators, and related power, communication, diagnostic, and control interfaces across current and future vehicle programs.
This role is accountable for translating vehicle and system needs into clear, testable subsystem requirements; maintaining alignment across hardware, software, controls, diagnostics, calibration, safety, validation, manufacturing, service, and suppliers; and driving timely resolution of complex technical issues. The SSLE will operate with a high level of independent judgment, influence technical direction across organizational boundaries, and lead work through collaboration rather than direct people management.
As a senior technical individual contributor, you will own the requirements and technical integration strategy for an assigned Electric Power subsystem or group of interfaces. You will connect customer and vehicle-level needs to component-level implementation and verification, ensuring that the resulting solution is robust, traceable, manufacturable, serviceable, and ready for program milestones.
You will work closely with Design Release Engineers, Functional System Architects, system and safety engineers, controls and software teams, technical specialists, validation teams, manufacturing, purchasing, service, and suppliers. You will also provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and guide the work of other engineers as needed.
This role offers the opportunity to work on critical vehicle electric power content by owning the mechanical and packaging execution of shields for generators, inverters, converters, battery vent tubes, jump start nuts, and related 12V hardware from concept through production. You will influence key integration decisions, solve packaging challenges, and help deliver robust solutions that support successful vehicle launches.
Work Environment
This position requires strong collaboration across electrical, systems, packaging, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and supplier teams . Candidates should be comfortable leading technical discussions, driving issue resolution, and executing engineering deliverables in support of aggressive program milestones.
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
Benefits : GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.
Diversity Information
General Motors is committed to being a workplace that is not only free of discrimination, but one that genuinely fosters inclusion and belonging. We strongly believe that workforce diversity creates an environment in which our employees can thrive and develop better products for our customers. We understand and embrace the variety through which people gain experiences whether through professional, personal, educational, or volunteer opportunities.
We encourage interested candidates to review the key responsibilities and qualifications and apply for any positions that match your skills and capabilities
