Youth Skills Trainer

As a Youth Skills Trainer, you’ll support individuals with disabilities in building practical skills and participating in everyday activities after school or on weekends. You’ll provide respectful, person-centered assistance at home and in the community, adapting your approach to each person’s communication style and support needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as personal care and daily routines, while encouraging independence.
• Provide direct support with home and community activities, including personal transportation assistance when needed.
• Use positive behavior management strategies and communicate clearly with clients, families, and support teams.
• Collect and document information about activities, progress, and support needs.
• Your impact: By helping clients practice daily living skills, you support greater independence and meaningful participation for them and their families.
• Skills
• Experience with individuals with autism, developmental or intellectual disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, cognitive disabilities, or other disabilities is valuable; special education, behavioral health, social services, caregiving, childcare, or home and community care experience is also relevant.
• Knowledge of direct support, intellectual disabilities support, assisting with ADLs, and behavior management is helpful.
• Strong communication and client communication skills; American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
• Ability to drive a standard passenger car and provide driving or personal transportation assistance as needed.
• First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills are preferred.

• High school diploma or GED
• Drivers license, reliable vehicle, and vehicle insurance
• CPR certification or willing to obtain
