Tailor a résumé and cover letter for one role
The Resume Tailor and Cover Letter draft documents for one specific job from your own background, for you to review.
Follow Avery Morgan, a product manager in Chicago, IL, as she tailors her resume and a cover letter for one role at Example Company.
Example · Fictional people, companies and jobsQuick tailor and the Standard Cover Letter come with Base, and with Flex on a role you unlock. Pro adds Guided tailor and the Enhanced Cover Letter.
Choose how to tailor
Quick tailor rewords your own resume in the posting's language in about a minute. Guided tailor first asks about what your resume doesn't show yet, then does the same with your answers added.
When you've found a role worth applying for and your resume was written for a different job.
- Each role comes with three tailored resumes and three cover letters. Editing, saving and downloading don't use them.
- Guided tailor is part of Pro. On Base it carries a Pro badge and can't be chosen.
Avery has the Product Manager role at Example Company open in Find. Opening Resume doesn't write anything or use anything up. Try it Tap the Resume card beside the job.

Cover LetterDraft a cover letter
Product ManagerExample CompanyChicago, IL · Hybrid · Full-time
Example Company is looking for a Product Manager to improve how new teams discover, adopt, and keep using its collaboration software.
What you would own
- Set the onboarding roadmap using customer interviews and product signals.
- Partner with design and engineering to test clearer first-use flows.
- Explain tradeoffs and measure whether changes help teams get started.
Step 1 of 3
See exactly what changed
Every reworded line keeps the original behind it, and every reworded or added line is listed with its reason. Nothing from your resume is removed.
When you want a tailored resume you can trust before your name goes on it.
- A job keyword joins your skills only when the posting and your own lines both use it.
- A claim your resume can't back up is left out and listed for you to see.
The draft says up front what happened: 2 lines reworded · 2 added · nothing removed. Reworded lines are highlighted, and each keeps the original behind it. Try it Tap the first highlighted line to see what Avery wrote.

Step 1 of 4
Close a gap in your own words
Guided tailor lists where your resume falls short for this job. You answer in your own words, and the new line goes only where you put it.
When a posting asks for something you've done but never wrote down.
- Guided tailor is part of Pro. It asks about up to six gaps, and answering them doesn't use a tailored resume.
- Q writes the line only from what you said. A vague answer gets a follow-up question, not an invented number.
Avery presses Tailor again and picks Guided tailor. Q finds four things the posting asks for that her resume doesn't show, and nothing is checked until she checks it. Try it Check Measured activation results.
Seen on Pro, Avery's plan. Guided tailor is part of Pro.

Pick the gaps to work on
We found 4 places where this job asks for something your resume does not show. Check the ones you want to answer a quick question about. Anything unchecked is skipped.
Step 1 of 7
Check it, then send it
Before you download, the draft is checked for applicant tracking systems. Every tailored resume is saved in your Vault, with its revision history.
When it's time to apply and you want a clean file you can send today.
- The Word file uses standard headings and plain formatting that applicant tracking systems can read.
- In the Vault, any revision can also be downloaded as a presentation PDF.
Avery's Guided draft is Version 2. Before she downloads it, Checks gives a verdict and lists anything still kept out for lack of proof. Try it Open Checks to see the verdict.

Step 1 of 5
A cover letter that sounds like you
Tell LAYIQ how you sound once, in your Cover Letter Voice. Each letter is written for one role from your own resume, and the Enhanced letter highlights each company fact it can find in the letter.
When an application asks for a cover letter and a blank page is the last thing you need.
- The Enhanced Cover Letter is part of Pro. If you ran Guided tailor for the role, it positions you against the same gaps.
- If the Enhanced letter can't be written, LAYIQ gives you the Standard letter instead and says so.
In her Profile, Avery describes how her letters should sound. It's an instruction for every letter, not a template. Try it Choose one of Avery's two voices.
Cover Letter Voice
Your voice is an instruction, not a letter. The letters themselves live in the Vault.

For example: direct, specific, warm, and grounded in evidence.
Nothing here yet. Describe the voice your letters should carry — direct, warm, executive — and LAYIQ writes in it.
