Job Description

Visa is seeking a Vice President of Acceptance Technologies and Intelligent Commerce Engineering to lead a global engineering organization responsible for developing and advancing technologies that enable secure, seamless and innovative payment acceptance experiences worldwide.

This leader will oversee engineering across EMV and contactless technologies, software and device-based acceptance, Acceptance SDKs and applications, secure payment credentials, testing and validation capabilities, and related acceptance technologies. The role will also help shape the next generation of intelligent commerce by applying artificial intelligence, automation and advanced technologies to improve acceptance experiences, client integration and engineering effectiveness.

The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong enterprise leadership and a track record of delivering complex payment technologies at global scale. This leader will work closely with Product, the Visa Acceptance Platform organization, Architecture, Cybersecurity, Operations, Risk and regional teams to translate business and client needs into scalable technology solutions.

What You'll Do

• Lead Acceptance EMV and Contactless Technology Strategy
• Define and execute the technology strategy for Visa's acceptance technology portfolio, spanning EMV and contactless technologies, device and software-based acceptance, SDKs, secure credentials, testing and validation capabilities, and emerging commerce experiences.
• Lead engineering for technologies that enable secure and seamless acceptance across physical, mobile and digital commerce.
• Translate evolving client, product and market needs into clear technology priorities and multi-year engineering roadmaps.
• Drive architectural direction and technical decisions across the acceptance technology portfolio.
• Advance Acceptance Innovation and Intelligent Commerce
• Shape the next generation of Acceptance experiences through new technologies, engineering innovation and intelligent commerce capabilities.
• Lead the application of AI, machine learning, automation and agentic technologies within Acceptance products and engineering solutions to improve client experiences, accelerate integration and validation, and increase engineering effectiveness.
• Promote experimentation and innovation while ensuring solutions meet Visa's standards for security, privacy, trust and responsible AI.
• Foster intellectual property creation and technical innovation across the organization.
• Deliver and Modernize Acceptance Technologies
• Lead the development, modernization and global delivery of Visa's acceptance technologies and services.
• Advance software-based acceptance, mobile and device capabilities, SDKs, chip and contactless technologies, and testing, certification and validation solutions.
• Ensure strong engineering practices across architecture, software quality, security and product delivery.
• Partner closely with the Visa Acceptance Platform organization to leverage shared platform, cloud, reliability and operational capabilities required by acceptance products.
• Shape Industry Standards and Ecosystem Partnerships
• Represent and advance Visa's technology interests with industry standards organizations and strategic ecosystem partners.
• Influence the evolution of payment acceptance standards and emerging technologies in support of Visa's long-term strategy.
• Partner with clients, issuers, acquirers, processors, device manufacturers, technology providers and other ecosystem participants to advance acceptance capabilities.
• Drive Client Enablement and Technology Adoption
• Ensure Acceptance technologies enable efficient client integration, testing, certification and deployment.
• Champion self-service, automation and reusable technology capabilities that simplify adoption and scale global delivery.
• Partner with Product and regional teams to address complex client requirements and bring new acceptance capabilities to market.
• Lead a Global Engineering Organization
• Lead and develop a globally distributed organization of engineering and technology leaders.
• Build a culture of technical excellence, accountability, innovation, collaboration and continuous learning.
• Develop engineering leadership and succession depth while attracting and retaining strong technical talent.
• Create an environment in which teams challenge assumptions, share ideas and take clear ownership for outcomes.
• Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

• Basic Qualifications
• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor's Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's, MBA, JD, MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications

• 15 or more years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Master's, MBA, JD, MD, PhD).
• 15+ years of progressive software engineering, technology or related leadership experience.
• Significant experience leading complex, globally distributed engineering organizations.
• Demonstrated experience defining technology strategy and delivering enterprise-scale products and services.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, engineering practices, security and technology modernization.
• Proven ability to lead organizational and technology transformation.
• Demonstrated ability to partner across Product, Engineering, Security, Risk, Operations and other enterprise functions.
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Deep experience in payments, payment acceptance or related commerce technologies.
• Experience with EMV, contactless payments, NFC, software-based acceptance, payment devices, SDKs, secure credentials, tokenization, testing, certification or related payment infrastructure.
• Experience designing and delivering highly scalable distributed systems and globally deployed technology products.
• Experience applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation or generative AI within commercial products or engineering environments.
• Experience working with global payments standards organizations, technology partners or ecosystem participants.
• Strong knowledge of secure software development and technology risk management in regulated environments.

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $228,700 to $314,500 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

Travel Requirements

This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements

This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
