Description
Are you an engineer who wants to have impact on nationally important defense programs by building practical solutions to hard problems?
Do you want a key engineering/analyst role that helps AMDS revolutionize the art of defense by applying your talents to address the difficult challenges facing our warfighters such as Operationalizing Artificial Intelligence to support Achieving Robust Homeland and Theater Defenses, Accelerating Warfighting Capabilities in INDOPACOM, or Enabling Space Superiority?
Do you want to help transform Decision Dominance for the U.S. Military challenges?
Would you like to contribute to the rapid exploration, engineering, analysis, and transition of mission planning solutions to U.S. warfighters?
If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!
In A5C, we develop and deploy advanced planning capabilities and solutions directly into the hands of the warfighter, empowering them to design dominant defenses for maximum performance across multiple simultaneous missions, multiple services, and multiple command echelon planning levels and domains.
Our work spans the full mission planning problem: modeling sensors, effectors, and combat systems; designing mission planning capabilities (workflows, models, and algorithms); optimizing defense designs and strategies; and performing the lifecycle engineering and real-world operations analysis that keeps capabilities effective in the field.
We are seeking an enthusiastic team member with software engineering experience willing to take on exciting assignments and willing to learn about the complexity of military systems.
As a Mission Planning Design Engineer / Analyst you will...
Engineer solutions for military mission planning and conduct the analytical efforts that shape planning, battle management, and coordination capabilities.
Describe and model system architectures and the algorithms that underpin planning, battle management, and coordination capabilities.
Develop algorithms and models of sensors, effectors, and combat systems to assess mission plans, defense designs, and engagement performance across realistic threat scenarios.
Engineer workflows for planning and battle management capabilities, translating warfighter needs into intuitive, effective capabilities.
Apply optimization techniques to defense design and strategy problems, defining measures of effectiveness, conducting trade studies, and allocating sensors, effectors, and platforms to maximize performance across multiple simultaneous missions and planning levels.
Develop prototypes leveraging existing models, libraries, and data to support planning, optimization, and operational analysis.
Conduct analysis supporting lifecycle engineering and real-world operations, including test events and operational scenarios, to provide data and recommendations for the Missile Defense Agency and Navy decision-makers.
Participate in requirements and design reviews to ensure sponsor direction is established and assess prime contractor compliance with sponsor directions.
Develop and deliver presentations to sponsors and collaborators that effectively communicate proposed solutions and analysis.
Author reports that bring together models, analysis, requirements, and technical recommendations.
