From Trackonomy's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Trackonomy is pioneering a transformative network of interconnected objects. Our goal is to bring inanimate objects to life, enabling them to communicate, think, and interact in real time.
We are building the operating system for the connected world—one object and sensor at a time.
Our customers span logistics, industrial, utilities, healthcare, and government sectors, using our solutions for predictive maintenance, workflow optimization, asset protection, safety, security, and environmental monitoring. Backed by leading investors, including Kleiner Perkins and 8VC, Trackonomy is one of Silicon Valley’s fastest-growing IoT companies.
Our executive leadership team has worked together for more than two decades, holding key leadership positions at companies including Flextronics, Heptagon, GT-Nexus, and Digital Motors Corporation. Together, they have engineered breakthrough technology that is delivering extraordinary results for customers around the world.
Are you ready to be part of the next chapter in Silicon Valley’s hyper-growth IoT success story?
Trackonomy is looking for an experienced payroll professional to provide centralized review, reconciliation, and reporting across our global payroll operations.
This is a part-time, highly flexible remote position designed for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys detailed analysis and problem-solving and wants meaningful work without a traditional full-time schedule.
Trackonomy has approximately 700 employees globally, with payroll administered locally across multiple countries through internal teams, payroll providers, PEO/EOR partners, and external accounting firms. This role does not process payroll. Instead, you will provide the independent review and reporting layer across those payrolls.
Your objective is to help us confidently answer three questions every month:
Did we pay people correctly?
Did we pay the correct employment-related costs?
Can we explain what changed?
You will review payroll results, reconcile activity to employee and compensation changes, investigate unusual variances, identify errors and potential overpayments, and work with HR, Finance, local teams, and payroll providers to resolve discrepancies.
You will also own our consolidated global payroll reporting, giving HR and Finance a reliable view of payroll costs across countries, entities, and providers.
Success in this role means creating a disciplined global payroll review process that catches errors, explains payroll movement, improves controls, and provides leadership with accurate and timely payroll information.
Experience and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in payroll, payroll accounting, payroll audit, payroll reconciliation, or a closely related field.
Strong experience reviewing payroll registers, reconciling payroll activity, and identifying discrepancies.
Solid understanding of gross-to-net payroll, employer taxes and contributions, deductions, bonuses, commissions, and other payroll-related employer costs.
Advanced Excel and/or Google Sheets skills, including pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Demonstrated ability to analyze payroll data, recognize unusual activity, investigate discrepancies, and follow issues through resolution.
Ability to reconcile payroll changes to hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, commissions, and other employee activity.
Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to organize and consolidate data received from multiple systems, providers, and formats.
Preferred Skills
Experience reviewing payroll across multiple countries, legal entities, or payroll providers.
Experience with global payroll reporting and reconciliation.
Experience working with Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and/or Employer of Record (EOR) arrangements.
Experience reviewing payroll provider invoices, employer taxes, statutory contributions, and other employment-related costs.
Familiarity with payroll accounting, accruals, and month-end close processes.
Experience reviewing bonuses, commissions, or other variable compensation.
Experience identifying payroll overpayments, duplicate payments, provider billing discrepancies, tax or contribution errors, or other payroll-related exceptions.
Experience developing or improving payroll controls, reconciliation processes, or reporting.
Experience working in a high-growth, international, or decentralized organization.
You do not need to have processed payroll in every country where we operate. We are looking for someone who understands payroll well enough to recognize when something does not make sense, knows what questions to ask, and can work with local experts and providers to determine the answer.
In your first several months, you will begin maintaining the monthly review and reconciliation process across our global payrolls and organize payroll reporting from multiple countries and providers into a standardized structure.
This role has a direct and measurable impact on the business. With payroll representing one of our largest operating expenses, strong review and controls can identify costly errors, improve financial reporting, and prevent recurring issues.
You will have the opportunity to build a global payroll review and reporting process that becomes an important control for both HR and Finance.
Flexibility
This position is intentionally designed as a part-time role requiring approximately 40 hours per month.
The role is fully remote within the United States and offers substantial flexibility in when the work is performed. You will need to meet established monthly payroll and Finance reporting deadlines and occasionally coordinate with colleagues in different time zones, but this is not a traditional 9-to-5 position.
We care about accuracy, responsiveness, and results—not where you sit or whether you work traditional office hours.
Growth and Development
At Trackonomy, your growth is driven by your capabilities, passion, ownership, and results. As part of an early-stage, high-growth company, you will have opportunities to take on diverse responsibilities, learn directly from experienced leaders, and expand your role as your impact grows.
We believe talent and execution matter more than hierarchy. Team members are encouraged to explore new challenges, collaborate across functions, and continuously develop new skills.
Ownership and Collaboration
Our culture isn't something you join—it's something you help build. Every employee plays a meaningful role in our success and contributes to shaping our products, processes, and future. We value collaboration, knowledge sharing, accountability, and a strong sense of ownership.
