About Seed House Project
At Seed House Project (SHP), we help unhoused young people understand homelessness as an experience rather than an identity. We are on a mission to provide system-impacted youth with a pathway from survival to self-actualization. Our integrated model goes beyond housing and basic needs, and equips youth with the confidence, life skills, healing and community they need to lead purposeful and independent lives.
Members become part of a community of peer support, where they are welcomed and coached to develop a sense of personal purpose that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Graduation is not the finish line: our Aftercare Program ensures alumni keep the stability, relationships, and support they built with us as they step into independent life. We look forward to welcoming a dedicated Life School Alumni Success Advisor to lead this next chapter of care.
Life School Alumni Success Advisor Role Overview
You believe a young person’s past does not define their future, and you know that the months after a big transition are when support matters most. You are relational, organized, and steady — able to hold both warmth and accountability. You know your way around the Los Angeles housing landscape, you love bringing people together, and you can manage resources with fairness and care.
Our new Life School Alumni Success Advisor will be the primary point of contact for SHP alumni after they graduate. You will help graduating members secure safe, stable housing; build a thriving alumni community through monthly gatherings; keep alumni connected to SHP’s therapy team, Financial Coach, and Life Coach; and steward the Alumni Emergency Fund so it reaches those who need it, consistently and responsibly.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- The Life School Alumni Success Advisor will work closely with the Dean of Life School Programs and case managers to ensure every graduate leaves SHP with a home, a plan, and a community.
- Housing Transition: Begin housing planning with members 3–6 months before graduation. Identify and maintain a current list of housing options, including roommate matches, affordable and shared housing, THP-Plus and other transition-age youth programs, and subsidized housing. Support members with applications, documents, viewings, leases, and tenant rights, and follow up after move-in to support stability.
- Landlord & Housing Partnerships: Build relationships with landlords, property managers, and housing providers to grow a pipeline of youth-friendly housing options.
- Monthly Alumni Gatherings: Plan, host, and lead one alumni gathering each month (dinners, workshops, service projects, celebrations). Invite alumni to help shape and co-lead gatherings, and manage logistics, budget, outreach, and attendance tracking.
- Alumni Engagement & Service Connection: Maintain at least monthly check-ins with each alumnus by phone, text, or in person. Connect alumni with SHP’s therapy team, Financial Coach, and Life Coach based on their needs, and coordinate referrals and scheduling.
- Emergency Fund Management: Serve as the first point of contact for alumni emergency funding requests (rent shortfalls, utilities, transportation, urgent needs). Ensure every request follows SHP’s Emergency Fund protocol, including a completed request form, required documentation, and confirmation that eligibility requirements are met.
- Protocol & Requirements Compliance: Verify that alumni are meeting aftercare requirements, such as active engagement, participation in gatherings or coaching sessions, and a plan with the Financial Coach. Communicate decisions clearly and respectfully, including when a request does not qualify, and help alumni with next steps.
- Fund Stewardship & Reporting: Prepare recommendations for approval, process approved payments (directly to landlords or vendors whenever possible), keep accurate disbursement records, and report fund balance and usage monthly.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Track alumni engagement, goals, and service use in SHP’s records system, keeping all information accurate and confidential; Prepare monthly aftercare reports for the Dean of Life School Programs and support grant reporting; Refer alumni to outside resources (employment, education, health, legal) when needs go beyond SHP’s services; Contribute to the continuous improvement of Aftercare policies, protocols, and programming; Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and SHP events as needed; Represent SHP with warmth and professionalism with partners, landlords, and the community.
- Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field (or equivalent lived and professional experience); 2+ years working with transition-age youth, system-impacted young adults, or people experiencing housing instability; Working knowledge of Los Angeles housing resources; housing navigation or case management experience a plus; Training in trauma-informed care, Healing Centered Engagement, or Motivational Interviewing preferred; Strong organization and record-keeping, including experience handling funds or financial documentation; Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office; Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance; Lived experience in foster care, the justice system, or housing instability are valued.
