Job Description
This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center, Warren MI or Milford Proving Grounds, Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Software & Electronics Platform team is building the execution foundation for GM’s software-defined electric vehicles. We are looking for a Program Engineering Manager (PEM) to lead, define, and organize the physical assets that make persistent HIL, night regression, Co-Sim, CVF, and related validation environments effective for SDV2 and future platform architectures.
This role is accountable for making complex work executable. You will establish the asset strategy, portfolio, standards, ownership model, configuration baseline, capacity plan, and lifecycle approach required to support platform and vehicle-program commitments. You will work directly with the platform PEMs and APEMs to connect bench and lab readiness to integrated execution plans, milestone confidence, issue resolution, launch readiness, and recovery actions.
You will also work directly for and with the Chief Engineer, translating platform strategy into investment priorities, physical infrastructure decisions, cross-functional operating rhythms, and an enterprise-ready model for onboarding future programs.
The successful candidate will be equally comfortable shaping strategy with senior leaders, solving complex technical and infrastructure problems, driving disciplined execution across engineering organizations, and turning a collection of benches and labs into a coherent persistent capability.
Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in relevant areas.
Master's degree in engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
Experience supporting software-defined vehicles, SDV2, centralized or high-performance compute, vehicle networks, OTA delivery, diagnostics, or vehicle-level integration.
Experience establishing persistent HIL benches, night-regression chambers, Co-Sim environments, CVF environments, or enterprise validation infrastructure.
Experience with Teamcenter, Bench BOMs, DSI/VPI release processes, configuration management, calibration, test asset management, or related digital-thread systems.
Experience working across vehicle software, vehicle electronics, hardware, systems engineering, validation, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and lab operations.
Track record of improving execution systems, lab utilization, test throughput, asset availability, configuration integrity, operating rhythms, or organizational clarity.
Experience building investment cases, capacity plans, lifecycle strategies, spares strategies, or obsolescence plans for engineering infrastructure.
Persistent HIL, regression, Co-Sim, and CVF assets have clear purpose, owners, capability definitions, capacity, availability targets, and credible timing.
Physical-asset readiness is integrated into the PEM's platform execution plan and the Chief Engineer's strategy and investment decisions.
Bench BOMs and deployed configurations match approved hardware, software, calibration, eBOM, and test baselines.
Hardware and software releases reach the correct validation environments through controlled, repeatable pathways.
Asset gaps, capacity constraints, configuration risks, and obsolescence risks are surfaced early with actionable recovery plans.
Bench utilization, availability, regression throughput, coverage, repeatability, and recovery performance improve over time.
SDV2 and future programs onboard to a common physical-asset model without recreating disconnected infrastructure.
Senior leaders and partner organizations receive a consistent, fact-based view of physical validation readiness, risk, and investment confidence.
YOU will help turn GM's software-defined vehicle strategy into a persistent physical execution capability. This is a high-impact technical leadership role at the intersection of platform architecture, software delivery, electronics integration, vehicle programs, test infrastructure, and launch readiness.
The person in this role will work directly with the Chief Engineer and PEM to create the physical foundation required to integrate, validate, regress, and launch SDV2 and future vehicle platforms with greater speed, repeatability, and confidence. By organizing the right assets, configurations, ownership, and operating rhythms, you will help GM move from disconnected benches and one-off environments to a scalable enterprise capability.
Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
We believe we all must make a choice every day – individually and collectively – to drive meaningful change through our words, our deeds and our culture. Every day, we want every employee to feel they belong to one General Motors team.
