About the Opportunity

We are looking for a talented Senior Data Platform Engineer to join the Storage and Messaging team in our established Platform Engineering team.

We are an exchange. System scalability, performance and engineering productivity matter in everything that we do. Our platform domain is committed to fostering autonomy by providing engineering teams with paved paths to develop robust, secure, compliant, and scalable systems. We're seeking exceptional talent to join us in making this a reality

What You’ll Be Doing

• Build a self-service platform that empowers teams to build at scale across diverse database and messaging technologies, enabling the seamless and reliable development of application and data products.
• Continuously evolve our platform to support new data models and use cases, including structured and semi-structured data models, stream processing, and data governance at scale .
• Build and maintain a secure, scalable, and compliant data infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code and automation.
• Enable data ingestion, processing, and consumption at scale. All are offered entirely as self-service.
• Mentor teammates by sharing technical knowledge, providing constructive feedback, and driving engineering excellence.

What We Look For

• Experience with one or more programming languages. We primarily use Golang and Python (Java is a plus), but we value problem-solving ability over syntax familiarity.
• Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and distributed data systems.
• Experience with SQL and No-SQL databases. Understanding of data warehousing and batch/stream processing is a plus.
• Experience with distributed messaging systems such as Kafka, including cluster operations, topic/partition design, consumer group tuning, schema registry, and stream processing with Flink
• Fluency in using infrastructure as code tools (like Terraform) and container orchestration platforms (like Kubernetes) in a cloud-first environment.
• Exceptional communication skills. We expect engineers to take ownership of their work end-to-end and communicate directly with stakeholders.
• High sense of ownership, accountability and engineering mindset. We value engineers who take initiative and advocate for the long-term health of our data ecosystem.
• We care more about your engineering mindset than your knowledge of any specific tool or technology. If this sounds exciting, even if you do not check every box, let's talk!
• At Bitvavo, we believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation, foster creativity, and lead to better outcomes. We are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve and creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, ability, or any other characteristic. Join us and be part of a team that values and celebrates your unique contributions.
• Bitvavo does not accept resumes from staffing, search, or recruitment firms without a signed agreement. If you send us a resume without such an agreement, we may contact the candidate directly without any obligation whatsoever and no fee of any kind will be paid should we hire the candidate.
