Employer Job Description
From Apple's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Apple is a place where extraordinary people gather to do their best work. Our community is made up of every kind of individual: artists and designers, engineers and scientists, thinkers and doers. Together we create things and experiences people once couldn’t have imagined — and now can’t imagine living without. So if you’re excited by the idea of making a real impact, a career with Apple might be your dream job. Just be ready to dream big.
Description
We're looking for a Module System Engineer to design and deploy the test instruments that validate our camera and battery modules, from prototype through high-volume manufacturing. You'll build test fixtures, automated test sequences, and data acquisition systems; commission them at our factories; and use them to drive root-cause analysis when modules fail. Your work will directly shape the quality and reliability of modules used in consumer electronics, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, and wearable devices.
This is a generalist role. Prior camera or battery experience is a plus but not required — you'll build module domain knowledge on the job. What we need is strong fundamentals in test system design, electrical measurement, and problem-solving in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop test instruments for camera and battery module validation, including electrical test fixtures, measurement systems, and automated data acquisition platforms
- Create test sequences, measurement algorithms, and software interfaces that deliver accurate, repeatable module characterization
- Define factory-level test strategies, including test specifications, acceptance criteria, and standardized procedures for global manufacturing sites
- Deploy, commission, and optimize test equipment at production facilities, including calibration, correlation studies, and gauge R&R validation
- Respond rapidly to line-down situations involving test equipment failures or measurement issues, through remote diagnostics and on-site support
- Lead Failure Analysis and Corrective Action (FACA) investigations by developing diagnostic tools and test methodologies to identify root causes of module failures
- Analyze test data trends and failure signatures to improve detection capability and prevent escapes through better test coverage
- Work with manufacturing engineering, quality, product validation, and suppliers to improve test coverage, increase yield, and reduce cycle time
- Partner with camera and battery module engineers, battery management system (BMS) teams, and software developers to translate module specifications into test requirements and validation strategies
- Participate in design reviews to ensure modules are testable and validation coverage is adequate throughout the product lifecycle
- Willingness to travel 10-20% for factory support, vendor engagement, and station deployment
- Availability to support line-down issues in production, which may require work outside standard hours or across time zones
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field with experience in electrical design
- Experience in test equipment hardware design or hardware validation engineering for PCBs, flex circuits, or System-in-Package (SiP)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field with 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical design, development, and factory testing for consumer electronics
- Experience with camera and/or battery module testing
- Experience supporting factory builds, contributing to or leading FACA, and managing line-down issues in fast-paced production environments
- Working knowledge of industry interfaces and test standards (e.g. MIPI, I2C, USB, SPMI, ACI)
- Familiarity with factory test equipment, end-to-end validation methods, and data interpretation for quality control
- Programming or scripting proficiency (e.g. Python, Lua, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C++) for test automation, data processing, or analysis
- Experience with statistical analysis methods (SPC, DOE, Six Sigma)
- Demonstrated ability to learn new technical domains quickly
