 Job Description
BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world. Advancing the world of health™ is our Purpose, and it takes the imagination and passion of all of us to look at the impossible and find transformative solutions that turn dreams into possibilities. The Global Business Services (GBS) team helps drive BD forward by seeking out and implementing innovative ways to operate effectively and efficiently.
We are seeking a Senior Director to lead a major enterprise program within GBS and to serve as a trusted partner to the EVP, GBS Lead. This is a hybrid, high-impact role that combines three responsibilities: leading the enterprise program end-to-end (Enterprise Program Leadership), strengthening how the GBS leadership team operates (Chief of Staff), and owning the financial architecture that quantifies and tracks the program’s value (Finance Architect).
Reporting to the EVP, GBS, the role sits at the center of execution, governance and value — turning strategic intent into delivered outcomes and benefits. Success requires strong program-delivery discipline, financial acumen, executive presence, and the judgment to influence and align a broad set of senior stakeholders across a global, matrixed organization.
Remit: End-to-end leadership of the enterprise program; the operating rhythm and governance of the GBS leadership team; and the financial architecture, business case and benefits tracking for the program.
Reach: Global GBS, across functional towers, delivery-center regions and partner functions (e.g., Finance, IT, HR).
Key Interfaces: EVP, GBS; GBS functional tower and regional leaders; workstream leads; Finance; BU leaders and function heads; enterprise leadership, board and executive-committee forums.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Enterprise Program Leadership (60%)
- Lead end-to-end delivery of the enterprise program — own the roadmap, milestones, interdependencies and outcomes across workstreams and functions.
- Establish and run program governance and cadence: steering committees, workstream reviews, status reporting and decision forums.
- Drive execution — mobilize workstream leads, remove blockers, and manage risks, issues and dependencies, holding owners accountable to plan.
- Align senior stakeholders across functions, regions and BUs on scope, sequencing and adoption.
- Lead change management and readiness so program outcomes are adopted and sustained.
- Report program health and value realization to leadership; escalate deviations with clear options and recommendations.
- 2. Chief of Staff (20%)
- Own the operating rhythm and governance of the GBS leadership team — the operating calendar, agendas, pre-reads, decision logs and action follow-through.
- Prepare the EVP for enterprise leadership, board and executive-committee engagements.
- Coordinate the response to significant stakeholder escalations, convening the right owners without assuming their delivery accountability.
- Onboard senior leaders into the team, and represent the EVP in selected forums by explicit delegation.
- 3. Finance Architect (20%)
- Own the financial architecture of the program — the business case, cost/benefit model and productivity / savings targets.
- Build and maintain the financial models that quantify value, track benefits realization and link program outcomes to enterprise financial goals.
- Partner with Finance to align program economics with budgets, forecasts and reporting standards.
- Provide the financial transparency leadership needs to make trade-off and investment decisions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree (e.g., MBA) preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive experience, including senior leadership of large, cross-functional enterprise programs or transformations — ideally within GBS / shared services or a Global Capability Center.
- Proven delivery of complex programs on time and on benefit, with strong financial acumen and business-case ownership.
- Experience in a chief-of-staff or business-operations capacity supporting a senior executive is a strong plus.
- Excellent executive communication and stakeholder-management skills across a global, matrixed organization.
- Strong financial-modeling skills and the ability to translate program outcomes into quantified value.
- High degree of discretion, judgment and integrity in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
- Preferred Skills
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or a similarly regulated industry.
- Program / project certification (e.g., PMP) and / or continuous-improvement credentials (Lean, Six Sigma).
- Familiarity with GBS / shared-services operating models, functional towers and delivery-center operations.
- Comfort with financial-planning and MI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SAP).
