Employer Job Description
From Skild AI's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
Company Overview
At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts.
Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects.
Position Overview
Join Skild AI’s manufacturing team to build autonomous mobile robots and accessories. In this hands-on role, you will assemble mechanical and electrical components, install PCBAs, route cables, and complete production checks using technical drawings and work instructions. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will help the team deliver reliable products and meet production schedules.
Responsibilities
- Assemble robots, accessories, and subassemblies according to technical drawings, bills of materials, written work instructions, visual aids, and standard operating procedures.
- Install and secure mechanical hardware, printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cables, and wiring. Check component placement, connector seating, cable routing, and overall workmanship.
- Prepare each build by reviewing instructions and parts lists, gathering components and tools, and setting up an organized workstation.
- Use hand tools, calibrated torque tools, measuring instruments, and production or test equipment correctly; maintain tools and report damaged or out-of-calibration equipment.
- Perform in-process inspections and complete assembly checklists. Identify defects, document discrepancies, and raise quality concerns before moving work to the next step.
- Perform prescribed functional tests and basic troubleshooting to identify assembly issues; work with manufacturing engineering and your supervisor to resolve failures.
- Record build, inspection, and test results in production systems and spreadsheets. Apply required labels and maintain accurate production records.
- Support the production build plan, complete assigned work on schedule, and communicate material shortages, process issues, or other barriers promptly.
- Package completed robots and accessories for shipment. Identify unused materials and coordinate return-to-stock items with your supervisor.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized work area using 5S practices. Follow company safety procedures, handle materials responsibly, and perform other assigned manufacturing duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in electro-mechanical assembly, manufacturing, or a closely related field.
- Hands-on experience assembling mechanical and electrical components, installing PCBAs, and routing cables or wiring in a production environment.
- Ability to read and follow assembly drawings, parts lists, written instructions, visual aids, and standard operating procedures.
- Proficiency with common hand tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment, with consistent attention to assembly quality and workmanship.
- Basic troubleshooting skills and the ability to recognize, document, and communicate assembly or test problems.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technicians, supervisors, and manufacturing engineers.
- Ability to stay organized, follow established processes, and complete both repetitive assembly tasks and more complex builds accurately.
- Comfort using email, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and production tracking systems to follow instructions and record work.
- Additional Experience We Value
- Experience building robots, automated equipment, or similar complex electro-mechanical products.
- Familiarity with ERP and product lifecycle management systems, such as Rootstock and Propel.
- Experience with 5S, in-process inspection, and manufacturing process improvements.
- Physical Requirements
The role involves regular sitting, standing, and walking in a manufacturing environment, as well as hands-on assembly work and occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Essential job functions may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
