Founding Elementary Athletics Coach
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM* (when after-school club is not in sessions, coaches' schedule will align with academic teachers)
About the Role:
We are seeking a Founding Elementary Athletics Coach to design and lead an exemplary physical literacy and sports program that integrates technical skills, Basic Movement Skills (BMS), and strategic understanding. This role will lead the creation of a high-caliber elementary athletics program from scratch, instilling core motor patterns, spatial awareness, and fundamental movement mechanics in Kindergarten and building a sustainable, scalable pathway of athletic excellence through Elementary school.
Focusing primarily on basketball, soccer, and track and field, you will establish foundational athletic literacy, develop scholars' competitive and collaborative abilities, and cultivate enduring discipline, sportsmanship, and passion for physical activity.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished sports educator who holds a deep conviction that young scholars can master precise, dynamic movement and athletic discipline. They bring high expectations, rigorous physical standards, and intentional training into the gymnasium and field, paired with the ability to translate core BMS concepts and sport-specific techniques into engaging, age-appropriate instruction for elementary scholars.
In this role, you will:
Establish a culture of athletic excellence:
Build a sports program with high expectations for physical conditioning, sportsmanship, team-first discipline, fundamental mechanics, and thoughtful tactical decision-making during gameplay.
Deliver a rigorous, BMS-focused athletics curriculum:
Deliver a structured, developmentally aligned curriculum grounded in Basic Movement Skills (locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movement patterns) and dynamic physical literacy. Systematically build technical mastery across basketball (dribbling, passing, shooting mechanics, defensive footwork), soccer (ball control, dribbling, passing, positional awareness), and track and field (sprint mechanics, jump and throw fundamentals) through clear modeling, targeted progressions, and scholar mastery.
Cultivate physical literacy and critical thinking:
Teach scholars to observe movement with precise detail and analyze technical execution.
Build a strong athletic community:
By engaging families through sports clinics, family fitness events, and celebrations of scholars' physical growth and sportsmanship. Foster relationships with local youth sports leagues, athletic clubs, and community sports organizations to expand scholar exposure, clinic access, and enrichment opportunities.
Collaborate and continuously improve:
Actively participate in network-wide professional development, seek and integrate coaching feedback, collaborate with athletics colleagues across the network, and continuously refine practice design and instructional execution to elevate program outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Fluency in English is required. Bilingual fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole is preferred.
- A degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Sports Science, Athletic Coaching, Exercise Physiology, or experience/education in a related field is strongly preferred.
- Candidates who offer a strong mix of competitive sports experience, deep subject knowledge, and proven success in the classroom or gymnasium are highly encouraged to apply.
- Hold high standards for athletic performance and character: You have a discerning eye for movement quality, athletic technique, and a strong understanding of what makes team play and individual execution disciplined, strategic, and cohesive.
- Bring substantial sports and physical literacy expertise: You bring a solid background in physical literacy, competitive sports, youth athletic coaching, or kinesiology, with deep subject-matter knowledge across basketball, soccer, and track and field, alongside expertise in Basic Movement Skills (BMS) and motor skill progression.
- Understand athletics in a strategic and developmental context: You can connect daily activities and gameplay to broader athletic principles, training methodologies, official rules, and physical health, helping young scholars develop a deep, holistic understanding of sport beyond simple recreation.
- Have experience developing young athletes: Your coaching history, competitive playing background, teaching experience, or youth sports leadership demonstrates a sustained commitment to athletic development and a clear understanding of youth physical progression.
- Believe in the potential of every scholar: You combine high expectations with patience, explicit coaching, and an unwavering commitment to helping every young scholar master foundational movement, developing both physical grit and self-confidence.
- Value reflection and continuous improvement: You welcome constructive critique, analyze instructional execution and game results, and are dedicated to refining practice plans, curriculum, and team culture to build an increasingly stronger athletics program over time.

- Candidates should be prepared to share sample practice or lesson plans, or curriculum maps that showcase their instructional technique, behavior management, and structured approach to developing young athletes. https://info.flclearinghouse.com
