Employer Job Description
From Clearway Group's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
About the role
We are looking for a Fleet Planning & Logistics Manager to take ownership of a time-critical national logistics operation. This is a hands-on planning and control role focused on fleet planning, resource coordination, transport execution and operational performance across a field-based environment.
The role is full-time, permanent role, based in Runcorn, WA7 4UN.
You will bring structure, visibility and control to a fast-moving operation, helping the business plan work effectively, respond to changing priorities and maintain safe, reliable and cost-effective service delivery.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintain a clear operational view of asset readiness, open issues and available response resources.
- Coordinate national logistics activity, balancing service priorities, capacity, geography and cost.
- Operate a clear exception-management process: assess issues, prioritise response, coordinate the right resource, track completion and confirm resolution.
- Work with internal teams and external partners to improve planning processes, data quality and operational workflows.
- Manage third-party logistics and transport suppliers against agreed service levels, quality, capacity and cost expectations.
- Support seasonal and contingency planning to ensure adequate resource coverage and escalation routes.
- Build daily and weekly fleet plans that align jobs, people, vehicles and equipment to safely deliver operational demand.
- Monitor transport performance, route efficiency, fleet availability, compliance controls, delays, exceptions and recovery actions.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in fleet, transport planning, field-service coordination, logistics control, asset operations or another time-critical operating environment.
- Confidence managing geographically dispersed work, competing priorities and service-critical response requirements.
- Practical experience using operational data, dashboards, telematics, planning systems or monitoring platforms to identify exceptions and drive action.
- Strong planning judgement across resource, route, capacity, contingency, safety, service and cost trade-offs.
- Experience managing third-party operational suppliers against service levels, quality, capacity and cost.
- Strong Excel capability and confidence working with operational systems, management information and data quality.
- Working knowledge of transport compliance, fleet roadworthiness, defect management, maintenance planning, load security, driver licensing, drivers’ hours or operator-licence controls, or the ability to acquire this quickly.
- A proactive, calm and practical approach, with the ability to create repeatable controls and clear ways of working.
Qualifications and desirable experience
- Full UK driving licence.
- Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is desirable.
- CILT, IoTA or equivalent transport/logistics qualification is desirable.
- IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH awareness or equivalent practical health and safety training is desirable.
- Relevant experience in safe handling, storage, transport or field-service operations would be advantageous; role-specific competence will be provided where required.
- Why join us?
This is an opportunity to shape a critical national logistics function at a practical level. You will have the chance to improve visibility and performance, influence supplier delivery, and help create the controls that support safe, reliable and cost-effective field operations.
