Job Description
What you’ll do:
- Lead, develop, and manage a multidisciplinary engineering and technical team supporting utility-scale solar photovoltaic (Solar), battery energy storage systems (BESS), other renewable generation, build/transfer projects, and acquisition opportunities, including staffing, workload, performance, succession planning, resources, and budgets.
- Establish organizational priorities and foster a culture of safety, accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, inclusion, employee development, and continuous improvement.
- Lead engineering execution for self-developed Solar and BESS projects across the project lifecycle and provide engineering oversight of developer-led Solar, BESS, and other renewable build/transfer projects through acceptance, turnover, and closeout.
- Serve as the primary engineering integrator among Project Engineering, Self-Development, Self-Build, Acquisition and Project Management teams, Engineering Services, Operating Companies, developers, AE/EPC firms, OEMs, Independent Engineers, suppliers, and consultants to align technical requirements, project or transaction objectives, operating needs, and long-term asset performance.
- Direct resolution of technical interfaces, design changes, deviations, nonconformances, engineering issues, commercial-technical interfaces, and risks affecting safety, quality, cost, schedule, reliability, compliance, or transaction value.
- Own and maintain the applicable portions of the New Generation EPC Specification, ensuring requirements for Solar, BESS, and other applicable technologies remain accurate, complete, and aligned with Engineering Services design criteria, technical specifications, design standards, portfolio requirements, and lessons learned to provide a consistent technical basis for new AEP assets delivered through AE, EPC, or similar delivery models.
- Ensure project engineering and design comply with the New Generation EPC Specification, where applicable, Engineering Services requirements, codes and regulations, permits, quality requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Provide engineering leadership for design reviews, safety-in-design, constructability, operability, maintainability, interconnection, quality, commissioning, startup readiness, and other technical activities necessary to deliver safe, reliable, and maintainable Solar and BESS facilities.
- Lead technical due diligence for Solar, BESS, renewable generation, energy-storage, and other acquisition opportunities, coordinating internal subject-matter experts and Independent Engineers to evaluate design basis, asset condition, performance, construction quality, reliability, compliance, remaining useful life, anticipated capital requirements, and material technical risks.
- Promote standardization and application of proven engineering solutions and lessons learned across Solar, BESS, build/transfer, and acquisition activities, ensuring project, operating, and due-diligence experience is incorporated into future projects and the New Generation EPC Specification.
- Ensure critical design-basis decisions, assumptions, engineering rationale, approved deviations, due-diligence findings, risk assessments, lessons learned, and decision records are documented and traceable throughout the asset lifecycle, preserving the engineering knowledge and design history of the portfolio.
- Ensure completed and acquired facilities are supported by complete, accurate, organized, and retrievable engineering records that preserve design intent and accurately represent the asset. Lead engineering turnover, project closeout, and acquisition transition to support Operations, Maintenance, and long-term asset management.
