Learn about our benefits designed for you to Thrive at work and at home.
We boldly go.
Where is the work:
Monday to Thursday, work onsite with your colleagues. Fridays, choose your work location, balancing what your work requires.
What’s in it for you:
Thermo King is embarking on an exciting new adventure as we integrate dealerships into our corporate family! By bringing these critical operations directly under the Thermo King business, we are uniting local expertise with our global scale to redefine the future of sustainable transport refrigeration. There has never been a better time to join us!
You’ll have the backing of an industry leader combined with the agility of a growing network, offering unprecedented opportunities to accelerate your career and drive real impact from day one.
As an Area General Manager (AGM) within our Company-Owned Dealer Network at Thermo King Americas, you will step into a career-defining leadership opportunity: stitching together legacy operations, branch cultures, systems, and talent into a unified, high-performing commercial and operational powerhouse.
You will hold complete general management and P&L accountability for an assigned geographic territory generating $30M to $60M in annual revenue, championing both equipment sales and our mission-critical lifecycle parts and service ecosystem across the transport refrigeration and cold-chain sector.
Beyond core transport refrigeration, you will expand your territory's footprint by driving high-value adjacent business lines, including trailer repair and parts, yard spotter trucks, commercial truck upfitting, and specialty climate control solutions like Red Dot. You will lead, mentor, and elevate a high-caliber team of direct reports, including Service Managers, Parts Managers, and Sales Professionals, to drive commercial momentum, operational discipline, and customer excellence.
This hands-on, multi-site leadership role typically involves 20% to 40%+ travel across your territory to connect directly with your branches and key accounts.
As an integral member of an emerging national leadership cohort, you will collaborate closely with peer AGMs and executive leadership to architect best-in-class operating standards, unlock enterprise synergies, and build a scalable foundation for the long-term growth of Thermo King Americas. If you are a visionary, business-minded operator ready to shape the future of a rapidly evolving network, this role provides the executive autonomy to run a sizable business backed by the global strength of an industry leader.
What you will do:
- P&L & Financial Stewardship
- Complete Financial Ownership: Direct end-to-end P&L performance for multiple branch locations across the designated area, consistently delivering on commitments for annual revenue ($30M–$60M), gross margin, operating income (OI), and working capital/cash flow.
- Strategic Business Planning: Author and execute annual operating plans (AOP) and multi-year growth strategies, allocating capital and operating expenses effectively to maximize return on investment.
- Pricing & Margin Discipline: Drive operational productivity, labor recovery rates, parts inventory turns, warranty recovery, and disciplined equipment and service pricing strategies.
- Integration & Operational Harmonization
- Process Standardization: Implement standard work across all branch locations, deploying unified ERP/dealer management systems, lean operating principles (Business Operating System / MDI), and enterprise safety protocols.
- Cross-Area Best Practice Sharing: Actively collaborate as a trusted partner within the national AGM leadership team, piloting scalable initiatives and standardizing service delivery models across geographies.
- Stitching Organizations Together: Champion the strategic integration of acquired business units and/or product lines, breaking down silos, harmonizing redundant workflows, and fostering an inclusive, collaborative culture.
- Lifecycle Service & Parts Leadership
- Service Operations Excellence: Oversee multi-branch shop and mobile field service operations, driving technician productivity, shop utilization, first-time fix rates, and 24/7 emergency breakdown support.
- Parts & Ancillary Portfolio Expansion: Accelerate revenue across aftermarket parts sales and diversified product lines, including commercial trailer maintenance and repair, truck body upfitting, yard tractor/spotter truck support, and specialty HVAC equipment (Red Dot).
- Service Agreement Penetration: Expand contract maintenance programs and uptime agreements, deepening multi-year customer engagement and recurring lifecycle revenue.
- Commercial Strategy & Market Expansion
- Equipment Growth: Lead and partner with the sales teams to defend core market share and capture competitive conquest accounts across truck, trailer, bus, and auxiliary power unit (APU) segments.
- Strategic Account Management: Build enduring relationships with premier fleet executives, regional logistics providers, owner-operators, and national leasing accounts across the cold-chain ecosystem.
- Voice of Customer (VoC): Ensure premier customer satisfaction (NPS/CSAT) by instituting responsive dispute resolution, rapid repair turnaround times, and customer-centric communication.
- Talent Development, Culture & Succession
- Multi-Tier Leadership Coaching: Directly lead, mentor, and inspire a diverse management team consisting of Branch/Office Managers, Parts Managers, Service Managers, and Commercial Sales Representatives.
- High-Performing Team Building: Build a culture grounded in accountability, mutual respect, and winning together.
- Talent Pipeline & Upward Mobility: Identify high-potential talent across shop-floor, front-office, and sales personnel, establishing deliberate career development pathways and succession plans that feed future enterprise leadership roles.
- Safety & EHS Excellence: Serve as the visible champion of an uncompromising safety culture, ensuring compliance, environmental stewardship, safe fleet operations, and hazard reduction across all facilities.
What you will bring:
- Education & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 8–10+ years of progressive operational and commercial leadership experience within capital equipment, commercial transportation, heavy truck/trailer dealership networks, material handling, or industrial service sectors.
- P&L Responsibility: Demonstrated success holding direct P&L accountability ($25M+) with a proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding top-line and operating income targets.
- Service & Lifecycle Expertise: Deep operational grounding in managing equipment maintenance shops, parts inventory management, mobile/field service fleets, and warranty operations.
- M&A / Organizational Integration: Demonstrated experience leading teams through significant organizational change, post-merger integration, system cutovers, or business turnaround scenarios.
- Upward Mobility: Demonstrated capability, learning agility, and executive presence to advance into larger regional executive or enterprise business leadership roles.
- Core Leadership Competencies
- Strategic & Financial Acumen: Translates high-level enterprise goals into clear branch-level operating plans; comfortable navigating complex financial statements, margin analyses, and operational KPIs.
- Change Leadership & Influence: Masterfully navigates the human side of organizational change, inspiring buy-in from tenured legacy teams while introducing modernized operational standards.
- Customer & Commercial Focus: Brings an authentic customer-first mindset, able to represent the brand in C-suite commercial negotiations and on the service shop floor alike.
- Developing Direct Reports & Others: Passionate talent developer who invests in people, builds bench strength, and takes pride in promoting team members into expanding responsibilities.
- Courage & Decisiveness: Comfortable making data-informed decisions in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and taking calculated risks to drive growth.
