At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
Job Description
The Ground Systems Development organization is responsible for delivering reliable, high-performance instrumentation and controls (I&C) infrastructure that enables safe and continuous spaceflight operations. This position supports that mission by ensuring the fabrication shop has the right materials, at the right time, in the right quantities to sustain uninterrupted production of control panels, electrical enclosures, and cable harnesses.
This is a hands-on position that requires strong MRP proficiency, sharp organizational skills, and the ability to stand up inventory and planning processes in a new shop environment. You will own the material planning cycle end-to-end — from MRP management and demand forecasting through procurement coordination, inventory control, and production schedule alignment. Your planning directly determines whether build stations stay productive and panels ship on time.
Key Responsibilities
- MRP & Demand Planning. Evaluate and act on MRP action messages to ensure material availability against the production schedule. Monitor MRP forecasts, inventory levels, program demand, and production requirements. Evaluate and adjust planning attributes within the Item Master to improve planned order quantities and accuracy. Firm planned orders into manufacturing orders and purchase requisitions.
- Inventory Management. Manage a parts inventory spanning PLC hardware, I/O modules, terminal blocks, connectors, cable, enclosures, and consumables. Establish and maintain min/max stock levels, reorder points, and safety stock quantities — with particular attention to long-lead items. Conduct regular cycle counts, reconcile physical stock against system records, and maintain traceability for serialized and lot-controlled components.
- Procurement Coordination. Generate purchase requisitions and coordinate procurement through Blue Origin's systems. Track PO status, manage vendor delivery schedules, and escalate late or at-risk shipments. Manage material requirements on firm planned manufacturing orders to drive correct build configurations and align with baseline and recovery production schedules.
- Cross-Site & Program Coordination. Generate and maintain transfer reservations to coordinate cross-site material planning needs. Manage and authorize project transfers within your assigned scope of work. Ensure finished products are issued to inventory reservations upon completion of build. Support engineering change impact assessments and resulting material planning actions.
- Reporting & Analysis. Review and analyze MRP metrics and reporting for supply chain production status, shortages, and schedule risk. Track and report material metrics including inventory valuation, stockout events, on-time delivery rates, and spend by commodity category. Provide spend projections and consumption trend data to support annual operating plan (AOP) submissions.
- Systems & Process Development. Serve as a key team member in planning, training, implementation, and support of new ERP functionality and reporting. Establish stockroom processes, labeling standards, and storage practices for the new fabrication shop — including ESD-sensitive component handling. Drive continuous improvement in planning accuracy, inventory turns, and material availability.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of production planning, material planning, or supply chain experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, or production environment
- 2+ years of hands-on experience working directly within an MRP/ERP system (SAP, Oracle, Coupa, or similar)
- Working knowledge of MRP logic: demand netting, lead time offsets, planned order management, and safety stock calculations
- Ability to read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and parts lists to determine material requirements
- Strong analytical skills with advanced Excel proficiency for demand forecasting, BOM analysis, and inventory reporting
- Strong proficiency with digital tools and the ability to leverage AI and automation to develop, improve, and streamline planning processes and tooling
- Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and perform stockroom duties including receiving, shelving, and material handling
- Able to obtain badging at a government installation
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Industrial Technology, or related field
- 6+ years of material planning or supply chain experience in aerospace, defense, industrial automation/controls, or a similar high-reliability production environment
- Experience managing inventory for electrical/electronic components — familiarity with industrial controls parts (PLCs, I/O modules, connectors, cable, enclosures)
- ASCM/APICS certification (CPIM, CSCP, or similar)
- Experience with Coupa procurement workflows and Windchill or similar PLM for BOM management and engineering change tracking
- SQL or data query experience for spend analysis and inventory reporting
- Experience with Lean inventory methodologies (kanban, pull systems, point-of-use staging)
- Knowledge of ESD handling requirements for sensitive electronic components
- Experience supporting a greenfield shop startup — establishing initial stockroom layout, vendor relationships, and inventory processes from scratch
- Experience with DOD, USAF, NASA, or aerospace (orbital launch vehicle) environments
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
