Employer job description
From Fathom Robotics's posting. “We” and “our” refer to the employer.
ABOUT FATHOM ROBOTICS
Fathom Robotics provides operations, maintenance, training, and applied engineering services for uncrewed maritime systems supporting U.S. Government and commercial defense programs. We have multiple active projects across a variety of government and commercial clients and are actively fielding systems in operational environments.
ROLE OVERVIEW
Fathom Robotics is hiring an experienced Pulsed Power / High Voltage Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, prototyping, and testing of specialized electronic systems for defense applications. Our work involves high-voltage electronics, pulsed power systems, and capacitor discharge systems.
We are looking for a hands-on engineer with a strong understanding of high-voltage circuit design, energy storage, fast-switching electronics, and transient electrical behavior. The ideal candidate is comfortable taking designs from initial concept through schematic capture, PCB layout, prototype assembly, laboratory testing, and design validation.
This is a technical engineering position with an emphasis on practical design, troubleshooting, and hardware development rather than project management.
- LOCATION: Fort Worth, TX
- WORK TYPE: Full-Time, On-Site
- PROGRAM CONDITIONS
Work is primarily lab based in Fort Worth: circuit design, prototype assembly, and hands-on testing of high-voltage hardware. The role involves working safely around high-voltage and stored energy systems every day.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, and validate high-voltage and pulsed power electronic systems for defense applications
- Design and evaluate capacitor-based energy storage, power conversion, and controlled discharge electronics
- Develop high-voltage power supplies, switching circuits, and associated control and monitoring electronics
- Perform circuit simulation, schematic capture, component selection, and PCB design
- Evaluate electrical transients, switching behavior, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and high-voltage insulation requirements
- Build, troubleshoot, and test prototype electronic assemblies
Requirements
- DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Experience designing, developing, or testing high-voltage electronics or pulsed power systems
- Experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, and circuit simulation tools such as Altium, KiCad, LTspice, or equivalent software
- Ability to troubleshoot complex analog and power electronic circuits
- Ability to work independently on hardware development projects and communicate technical findings
- PREFERRED BACKGROUNDS
- Pulsed power or high-voltage design on defense, national lab, or directed energy programs
- Capacitor bank, high-voltage switch, or Marx generator design experience
- EMI and EMC testing and mitigation on power electronics
- Hands-on use of high-voltage probes, current monitors, and high-bandwidth oscilloscopes
- Solid high-voltage lab safety practices and experience working around stored energy systems
- Altium proficiency
Benefits
- Compensation: $100,000–$150,000/year, commensurate with experience
- Start Date: Contingent upon contract award, in the near term. We are running our hiring process now so we can bring the right person on quickly once award is confirmed.
- Fathom Robotics is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
