Sr. Conversational AI Product Design Technologist , Prime Video

Working closely with business and technology partners, we use research, design, and prototyping to explore the frontier of generative AI and conversational experiences, guide early product development, and develop a customer-centric point of view.

As a Conversational AI Product Design Technologist, you'll be a key part of our UX design organization. Your role will be all about proving, advancing, and evolving cutting-edge conversational experiences through prototyping and hands-on product work. You'll translate human conversational needs into AI interaction behaviors, and you'll build what you design, writing system instructions, shaping model behavior, building evaluations, and prototyping across platforms.

Key job responsibilities

-Build high-quality, functional prototypes that convey and advance the vision of future conversational experiences.

-Translate human conversational needs into AI interaction behaviors, balancing a natural and trustworthy voice.

-Shape model behavior by writing and refining system instructions and prompts, building goldens and platinums, and partnering on reinforcement learning and evaluations.

-Design and build for repair and recovery, handling ambiguity, misunderstanding, hallucination, and graceful failure.

-Define conversational quality metrics and apply them to measurably improve the experience, including building LLM-as-a-judge evaluations.

-Prototype across voice, text, visual, and ambient (multimodal) surfaces, using the best and most appropriate tools for the task.

-Collaborate with design leadership and stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle, and work alongside designers, researchers, PMs, and engineers to drive concepts from idea to implementation.

-Thrive in a fast-paced, iterative environment with ambiguous challenges and brand new customer experiences.

A day in the life

• One moment you might be mapping how a conversation should recover when a customer is misunderstood, then writing the system instructions that get the model there and standing up an evaluation to measure whether it holds up. The next moment, you might be building an interactive prototype on AWS Bedrock to show partners and leadership what the experience feels like, directing the model the way a film director uses analogies rather than spot correcting, letting it apply its own reasoning and world knowledge to interpret intent. You will move fluidly between designing the experience, shaping the model, and coding the prototype that makes it real.
• Basic Qualifications
• 5+ years of front-end technologist, engineer, or UX prototyper experience
• An available online portfolio, with coding or prototyping samples that demonstrate conversational AI work.
• Hands-on experience prototyping with and designing for LLM-powered products.
• Experience shaping AI systems, including writing system instructions and prompts and building or running evaluations.
• Experience building functional prototypes, for example with front-end technologies, AI prototyping tools, or AWS tools such as Bedrock.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in UX Design, UX research, linguistics, computational linguistics, or IVR/voice design.
• Experience defining conversational quality metrics and running LLM evaluations, including LLM-as-a-judge.
• Experience prototyping multimodal experiences across voice, text, visual, and ambient surfaces.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, model shaping, reinforcement learning, and AI-driven personalization.
• Understanding of WCAG AA standards and accessibility fluency.
• Expertise in working creatively around constraints and navigating ambiguous projects.
• Experience in entertainment, gaming, or streaming media.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in design, HCI, computer science, linguistics, or equivalent.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
