We are seeking a motivated and versatile Co-op student for our Software Test Engineer role at Abiomed, starting in January 2027. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and gain hands-on experience in software testing for medical devices, specifically using Pytest and other in-house tools for end-to-end testing. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about ensuring high-quality software and eager to learn and grow in a dynamic environment.

You’ll work alongside a diverse team of engineers, gaining hands-on experience with the latest technologies while solving meaningful challenges that directly influence our company’s goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Test Automation: Develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using tools such as Pytest and others for end-to-end testing of medical device software
• Test Planning: Collaborate with developers and QA team members to understand application requirements and design comprehensive test plans.
• Bug Identification : Identify, document, and track software defects and issues, and work closely with the development team to resolve them.
• Engage in Code Quality Assurance : Participate in code reviews and walkthroughs to ensure code quality and to align with industry standards.
• Test Execution : Perform manual and automated testing to ensure application functionality, performance, and security.
• Test Reporting: Generate and review test reports and provide insights and recommendations for improvements based on test results.
• Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the improvement of test processes and methodologies and stay up to date with the latest testing tools and techniques.

Qualifications

• Education: Junior, Senior, or Grad student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electronics, or related field.
• Coursework in electrical engineering, signals and systems, and embedded devices is a plus

Experience and Skills:

Required:

Technical Skills : Familiarity with automated test frameworks such as Pytest is essential

Database Knowledge : Understanding database concepts and experience with SQL-based databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) or NoSQL databases.

Programming Skills : Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, Rust, Python, or JavaScript

Version Control : Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.

Problem-Solving Abilities : Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to learning and adapting.

Communication Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate optimally in a team environment.

Project Experience : Proven experience through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships. Contributions to open-source projects or a personal portfolio are a plus.

Preferred:

Experience with Software Testing : Previous experience or coursework in Software development or testing projects.

Familiarity with Agile Methodologies : Exposure to Agile or Scrum methodologies is advantageous.

Interest in Emerging Technologies : Passion for learning about and working with new technologies and tools.

Experience with Embedded Software involving Low Level Languages such as C, C++, Rust, Go is a plus

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :

$23.50/hr to $52.50/hr

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:

The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience. Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
