Job Title:
Vice President, Product Management
Department: Product Development
About the Role
: Unite Us is seeking a Vice President, Product Management to lead the product organization responsible for our platform and product suite.
Our customers span government agencies, health systems, health plans, and community-based organizations (CBOs). They rely on Unite Us to identify needs, coordinate services across sectors, manage referrals and cases, and measure impact. Doing that well means building products that work for a caseworker at a small food pantry and a CIO at a national health plan, on the same platform, with the same commitment to privacy and dignity.
You'll help set the product vision and strategy, lead a team of product directors and managers, and own the portfolio from investment decision to measurable outcome. You'll shape how our platform scales: the shared services, identity, interoperability, and data foundations that let many teams ship independently without fragmenting the experience. And you'll bring the discipline that connects every product bet to customer value, financial results, and the people we ultimately serve.
This is a senior leadership role for a builder. If you've architected platforms yourself, led product at scale in a complex healthcare environment, and helped grow a team from good to great, this is a good fit.
What You'll Do:
- Product Vision and Strategy
- Define and communicate a multi-year product vision and strategy aligned with company goals, customer needs, and the evolving policy landscape for health and community care.
- Translate strategy into a clear, prioritized roadmap, and make hard tradeoff decisions with confidence and transparency.
- Stay close to customers, frontline users, and market trends, including government programs, value-based care, and reimbursement models for non-medical services.
- Identify where AI and advanced analytics can meaningfully improve how needs are identified, how services are coordinated, and how outcomes are measured.
- Represent product strategy to the executive team, the board, and key customers and partners.
- Portfolio and Investment Management
- Own the product portfolio, including investment allocation, initiative sizing, and return on investment across product lines.
- Build product intelligence that links initiatives to financials and outcomes, so leaders can see what we're spending, what we're getting, and what to stop.
- Run recurring business reviews with executive leadership that hold product, engineering, and business teams accountable to shared outcomes.
- Rationalize and consolidate overlapping capabilities to reduce cost, complexity, and security exposure.
- Platform, Identity, and Interoperability
- Lead the evolution of the Unite Us platform toward configurable, reusable capabilities that let decentralized teams deliver a unified experience.
- Champion a secure, scalable identity strategy, including single sign-on (SSO), OAuth and OpenID Connect (OIDC), role-based access control (RBAC), and multi-factor authentication.
- Partner with Interoperability Solutions Delivery and Engineering to grow our integration portfolio, including FHIR, SMART on FHIR, HL7, electronic health record (EHR) integrations, and partner APIs.
- Ensure products meet regulatory and compliance requirements, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and interoperability rules such as the 21st Century Cures Act.
- Build a third-party and partner ecosystem that extends the value of our network.
- Product Organization and Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of product directors and product managers, building a culture of empowered, outcome-focused teams.
- Establish consistent product practices across teams: discovery, prioritization, outcome measurement, and storytelling about what we've learned and delivered.
- Recruit and develop strong product talent, and create clear paths for growth.
- Celebrate outcomes, not just output, and make sure wins are shared across the company.
- Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Engineering and Design leadership as a unified product development leadership team.
- Work with Sales, Customer Success, and Implementation to understand customer needs, support strategic deals, and ensure what we sell is what we deliver.
- Collaborate with Marketing on positioning, launches, and how we tell the story of our products.
- Engage directly with customers and partners, including executive stakeholders at health plans, health systems, and government agencies.
- You’re a great fit for this role if: 12+ years of experience in product management, solution architecture, or health information technology, with 5+ years leading product teams and product leaders
- Led a large, multi-team product portfolio in healthcare, health plans, or health IT, and you can speak to the investment, outcome, and financial results of your decisions
- Technical foundation deep enough to go toe-to-toe with architects on platform, identity, and API strategy, ideally because you've been one
- Delivered interoperability capabilities in production, such as FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR applications, or EHR integrations
- Built or scaled a platform that lets many independent teams deliver a consistent experience
- Understand the regulatory environment for health data, including HIPAA and the 21st Century Cures Act
- Introduced product operating practices into an organization and made them stick
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including with executives, boards, and customer leadership
- Comfortable presenting to large audiences, and you enjoy teaching and developing others
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with ambiguity and competing priorities
- Commitment to social impact initiatives and helping underserved communities
- Experience serving special populations, such as Medicaid members, foster youth, or people receiving long-term services and supports (LTSS) a plus
- Experience with customer identity and access management (CIAM) platforms, such as Ping Identity or Okta a plus
- Background in clinical informatics or clinical decision support a plus
- Experience applying AI to product operations, portfolio management, or the product itself a plus
- Experience in a project-funded organization moving toward a product operating model a plus
- Published research, industry conference presentations, or teaching experience in health information technology or health administration a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Health, or a related field; master's degree in Health Administration, Public Health, Business, or a related field strongly preferred
- Technical Tools: Product and Roadmapping: Jira, Productboard, Aha!, or similar
- Analytics: Sigma, Looker, Tableau, or similar
- CRM Tools: Intercom, Jira
- Documentation Tools: Confluence, Google Suite
- Project Management Tools: Asana
- Performance Management Tool: Lattice
- Internal Tools: Workday, Zoom, Slack, Workramp
