How old are open jobs on LAYIQ?
LAYIQ counts the open jobs it lists by how long ago each employer posted them. This page has the counts as of Oct 20, 2026, what each number means and does not mean, the limits, how to cite it and a free CSV of the counts.

Of the 405,031 open jobs LAYIQ lists from about 10,000 employers, this is how long ago each was posted.

- The median open job was posted about 32 days ago.
- 47% of these jobs list a pay range.
- LAYIQ lists only postings from the last six calendar months, so older listings are not in these numbers.
- Reposting can reset a job's date, so a role may be older than the date shown.
- Jobs that stay posted for months are more likely to appear here than jobs filled within days. These numbers do not show how long hiring takes.

What each number means
- Open jobs
- The jobs LAYIQ lists as current openings whose employer posting date falls in the last six calendar months. Each is counted once.
- Age bands
- Each open job goes in one band by the days between its posting date and the as-of time: 0 to 7 days, 8 to 30, 31 to 90, and 91 days to the edge of the six-month window. The four bands add up to the total.
- Share
- A band's count as a share of all open jobs, in whole percents that add up to 100. A band under 1% reads “under 1%”.
- Median age
- The age at which half of the open jobs were posted more recently and half were posted earlier.
- Employers
- About how many different employers the open jobs come from. It is an estimate, so the page rounds it.
- Share that list a pay range
- The share of open jobs whose posting gives a US dollar annual or hourly pay range or single figure, recorded as a minimum and a maximum above zero. The two can be equal, so a posting that gives one figure counts alongside a true range. LAYIQ's company pages use the same definition.
What these numbers must not be called
- A ghost-job rate. A posting's age does not say whether the employer is still hiring for it. To see the evidence for one posting, use the Ghost Job Checker.
- How long jobs stay open, or how long a job takes to fill. A snapshot sees only what is open now. It cannot see when a job closes.
- A trend. One snapshot says nothing about whether open jobs are getting older or newer.
- A count of every job posting in the United States. It covers the openings LAYIQ lists, which it pulls from employer career sites.
Limits
- A six-month window. LAYIQ lists only postings from the last six calendar months. A job posted earlier and still open is not here, so the oldest band ends at the edge of the window, not at the oldest open job.
- Dates can reset. Some job boards move the posting date when an employer republishes a job. These numbers use the date the employer's posting gives, and cannot tell a republished job from a new one, so a job that reads as a few days old may have been open longer.
- A snapshot favours long-lived postings. A job that stays up for months is more likely to be in any one snapshot than a job filled within days, so the older bands look larger than they would among every posting an employer publishes.
- Only what LAYIQ lists. The counts cover the openings LAYIQ pulls from employer career sites. They are not a census of US job postings, and an employer LAYIQ does not list is not in them.

The CSV holds the aggregate counts for the measures above and nothing else: no job, employer, title or place. Each row is one measurement.
Each row carries the time its counts were taken (as_of).

band- all, or an age band: 0-7, 8-30, 31-90 or 91-plus, in days since the employer's posting date.
value- The number. Shares are percentages of all open jobs, to one decimal place.
unit- jobs, percent or days.
How to cite
Please cite LAYIQ and the as-of date, and say the numbers describe the jobs that were open at that moment. A suggested citation:

Does this show how many jobs are ghost jobs?

Why does the oldest band stop at six months?
LAYIQ lists only postings from the last six calendar months, so nothing older is counted. The last band runs from 91 days to the edge of that window.
